3 Key Steps to Get Started Coding

Nobody is born with the ability to code. Learning to program is a skill you need to develop, just like everything else. That said, it's one of the tougher skills out there, so you need to really put in the time and effort to learn the craft. But that's why it's worth doing.

Getting started comes down to 3 key steps.

1. Getting in the right mindset

Right now, you need to throw out your existing perception of how to learn. Learning to code is massively different than the type of learning you were taught in school. We wrote a blog post on Learn To Code With Me about this exact idea. Go bookmark it now.

2. Picking a language to learn first.

This is the part that paralyzes so many aspiring programmers. They bounce from blog to blog, forum to forum, reading the million differing opinions out there about which programming language they should learn first. There is no 100% correct answer. But there are some things that you should know about picking your first programming language. We cover them in our guide. So go check it out by clicking below.

3. Turning motivation into discipline.

If you've tried to learn any new skill, you know what we're talking about here. It's easy to get motivated enough to reach a certain point in the learning process. But motivation eventually fizzles out. You're probably thinking about learning to code for a few different reasons. Maybe you want a more rewarding career. Or you may want to build an app. Or you want more money. Or you want to get better at your current job. Whatever your motivation, you need to turn that initial boost into long-lasting discipline. Read the below post to see how.
